READ: Colossians 3:12-14 (NIV)

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

It's the second day of school and you're probably feeling some exhaustion. It's been hard to adjust back to waking up at 6AM instead of 12PM, right? The struggle is real.

When you wake up, what's one of the first things you do? You pick out your clothes for the day. Or maybe you pick them out the night before and lay them all out so they're fresh and ready to go in the morning.

I've always kind of seen the first week of school's outfits help define the year. You want to look good and impress your teachers. You also haven't seen your squad all summer so you want to look fresh for them too. Mom and dad took you by H&M and Target on Labor Day to hit up all the sales and buy a fresh wardrobe. And now here you go, headed off to school looking fresh before you head back to sweatpants and gym shorts for the year.

When we clothe ourselves, we're creating an outward expression how we feel inside. On days we feel good, we'll dress fresher. On days we're more tired, we dress more comfortable.

It's the same way as followers of Jesus. Paul tells us that we should "clothe" ourselves with certain qualities. These qualities should reflect our life with Christ.

As you get dressed each morning, are you remembering to put off your old self and take up your cross? Are you remembering to show outwardly that you love and follow Jesus?

• In what ways can you "clothe yourself" in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience?

• Is there somebody that you need to forgive? Maybe things went tough last year and you had a falling out before summer. Now is a good time to reconcile that relationship.

• Are you clothing yourself in love? Do you show love to others?
